Many women want to use hormone-free contraception. For this, copper is a material that has been used as a safe, hormone-free contraceptive for decades. It respects the natural female cycle and does not control or interfere with it like hormonal contraceptive methods do. At VenusMed we offer a wide range of intrauterine contraceptives (IUDs) with copper, such as the copper IUD, the frameless copper IUD and the intrauterine ball.

There are numerous methods of contraception available today. No contraceptive method is paid for or supported by Austrian health insurance yet.
Many women from the age of 40 still have 10-15 fertile years ahead of them, but no longer want to have children. Moreover, as your body begins to change in this phase of life, you should reconsider your method of contraception.
You should consider, that hormonal preparations with the active ingredient estrogen (such as many types of the pill) are considered very safe in their contraceptive effect, but do have side effects. They for example increase the risk of venous thrombosis, which already gets higher with age. Smoking or being overweight can also contribute to this risk. Therefore, the more of these factors accumulate, women over the age of 40 are often advised not to use estrogen-based contraception.
